  29. shareware.  This means that the possessor of this program is
  30. granted a limited license to use this product for an
  31. undefined amount of time.  In accordance with this agreement
  32. the owner will not alter any portion of this program or

  57.                         REGISTRATION:

  60.         Registration bestows many benefits on the program
  61. user and the programmer.  The benefits to the program user
  62. are easy:  He or she gains a registered copy, usually
  63. accompanied with free shareware versions of other quality
  64. programs.  These registered programs usually contain
  65. addition functions, and in any event are the most current
  66. public release of a program.  In addition, you are
  67. automatically placed on a "list".  This "list" is not
  68. distributed for any reason, so there's no need to worry
  69. about junk mail, etc. unless you specifically state that it
  70. is your wish that it be distributed, in which case it will
  71. be distributed, and you shall most likely recieve the
  72. benefit of as much junk mail as you desire.

  120.                       PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

  123.      MAIN MENU:  You may use the arrow keys to move the
  124. selection bar up and down the menu to highlight your
  125. selection, then press <ENTER> to engage that option.
  126. Pressing the first letter of an option jumps to highlight
  127. that selection.  Pressing <ESCAPE> when in the main menu
  128. will exit the menu (although you are prompted first).  The
  129. function keys have operations in this part of the program
  130. not available elsewhere.

  141.                      MAIN MENU OPTIONS:
  142.      ───────────────────────────────────────────────────

  144.         LOAD PHONEBOOK:  This option loads a phonebook
  145. previously saved to a file.  Dial-It supports a file-pick
  146. routine of a maximum of 18 data files.  Move the cursor bar
  147. to highlight the file choice and press <ENTER> to
  148. load/decode.
  149.  
  150.         "F" - Pressing "F" when in the Load Phonebook box
  151. allows you to manually alter the filespec LOAD scans for.
  152. You are prompted for the new filespec, which can consist of
  153. a filespec (*.FON, D*.*, HARVEY.DA*) , or a full path and a
  154. filespec.
  155.  
  156.         SAVE PHONEBOOK:  This saves the phonebook in memory
  157. to a data file.  Be sure to do this after editing or else
  158. your changes are lost after leaving the program.  The
  159. filename can be up to 8 letters.  Do not add an extension to
  160. the end of the filename.  Note that it will write over a
  161. previous file.
  162.  
  163.         VIEW PHONEBOOK:  Views the phonebook currently in
  164. memory, one entry at a time.  It starts at entry 1.
  165. Pressing <ENTER> proceeds to the next entry in memory.
  166. Pressing <BACKSPACE> will move to the previous entry.
  167. Pressing <ESCAPE> exits from viewing mode.
  168.  
  169.         "E" - Edit:  Allows you to edit your entries.
  170. Editing a blank entry is in effect adding an entry to your
  171. list.  Press the number identifying which entry you wish to
  172. modify, and modify it.  The following code is listed in the
  173. upper right hand corner:
  174.

  177.                  3.  Work Phone Number
  178.                  4.  Address [street]
  179.                  5.  Address [city, state  zip code]

  183.         Special Editing Keys:
  184.               Alt-D:  Pressing Alt-D deletes all portions of
  185.         an entry.  You are prompted before elimination to
  186.         make sure that wiping the entry out is what you mean
  187.         to do.
  188.  
  189.         "D" - Dial:  If your modem type is supported, and
  190. Dial-It is properly configured (see Appendix A, F3
  191. Configure), Dial-It will dial the number for you. Obviously,
  192. it checks to make sure if there is something TO
  193. dial...however, Dial-It does not check to make sure that
  194. it is a legitimate phone number.
  195.  
  196.         SEARCH:  Allows you to search the phonebook in
  197. memory for a string of text.  It need not be any
  198. recognizable word, i.e.  "782", "Dave", "u" are all
  199. examples.  Case does not  matter.  The Search routine then
  200. proceeds through all the  entries--starting at entry 1--
  201. until it finds a match.  It then displays that entry, with
  202. the categories that contain the string highlighted.  After
  203. the first one, pressing <ESCAPE> exits, while pressing
  204. <ENTER> continues the search where it left off.  If Search
  205. ever checks and finds no match, it will merely return to the
  206. option menu.
  207.  
  208.        PRINT LIST:  Prints the information to the printer.
  209. First it asks which categories to print.  Then it presents
  210. options for printing, then it prints.
  211.  
  212.         ALPHABETIZE:  This orders all entries in memory,
  213. either progressively (forward) or degressively (backward) in
  214. alphabetical ordev.  It's recommended you save it
  215. afterwards, else you may forget and *poof*, it's gone when
  216. you exit and you have to order it again.
  217.         CLEAR MEMORY:  Clears memory of all entries.  Be
  218. careful of this one, especially if you have made changes and
  219. not saved them yet.

  221.      APPENDIX A:  THE FUNCTION KEYS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS:

  224. This lists the various function keys and what part they play
  225. in each section of the program.  Unless noted otherwise, all
  226. entries apply to the Main Menu only.

  228. F1:  Help Hotcard - A quick reference card containing some
  229.      basic info and commands for functioning in the Dial-It
  230.      environ.
  231. F2:  MacroHelp - An in-depth help file for Dial-It.
  232.      Actually, an on-line text viewer for the ASCII file
  233.      included with Dial-It.  Uses up and down arrows, and
  234.      page up/page down to navigate.  <ESCAPE> exits.
  235. F3:  Configure - Allows configuration of certain options.
  236.          = Modem - Indicates whether modem exists, which COM
  237.            port, baud rate, timer, and other options.
  238.          = Sound - Toggles sound On/Off.
  239.          = Music - Allows selection of various PC Speaker
  240.            musicals.  Sound must be on.  Shareware versions
  241.            only have four or five, whereas registered
  242.            versions generally have all nine.
  243.          = Security - Allows indication of password, or
  244.            cancellation of it.
  245.          = Default Phone Filespec - Default filespec for
  246.            when loading files.
  247.          = Color Configuration - Allows configuration of
  248.            text and background colors.
  249.      Be sure to save your changes!
  250. F10: About Dial-It - Contains various tidbits about Dial-It
  251. of no real concern to most people, I'm sure.  Still, I'd
  252. suggest running it every time you get an update, just to see
  253. what's up.
